Handlung
In »Shirobako: The Movie« arbeiten die fünf Mädchen zwar noch immer bei Musashino Animation (»Musani«), doch nun hat sie die harsche Realität eingeholt: Die Arbeiten am bislang unveröffentlichten Projekt »Time Hippopotamus« gingen zwar gut voran, doch als der Partner TRAP seine Kooperation zurückzog, blieb Musanis Boss, Masato Marukawa, nichts anderes übrig, als das Projekt zu beerdigen. Viele Mitarbeiter verließen daraufhin das Unternehmen, Masato trat als Vorsitzender zurück und Shun Watanabe wurde sein Nachfolger. Seit diesem Vorfall hat Aoi an nicht unerheblichen Depressionen gelitten; ihren Freundinnen aus der Oberschulzeit ist es nicht viel besser ergangen: Trotz Beförderungen innerhalb Musani rückt ihr Traum vom eigenen Anime immer weiter in die Ferne. Das könnte sich ändern: Western Entertainment liegt ebenfalls mit einem Kooperationspartner im Clinch und möchte nun gemeinsam mit Musani am Anime »Air amphibious assault ship SIVA« arbeiten.
